Mental Health Treatment Study (MHTS)
The Mental Health Treatment Study (MHTS) is an important national study sponsored by the Social Security Administration. The MHTS is designed to determine the impact of having access to evidence-based mental health services and employment services on finding and keeping employment. While effective treatments for most mental disorders are available, many SSDI beneficiaries with mental impairments do not have access to them.
The MHTS will study 2 groups of people. A special services group will receive, at no cost, supported employment services and integrated mental health treatment, as well as supplemental health insurance coverage. The regular services group will receive a resource manual listing valuable services in their community. The people in the regular services group will be paid for their time. Participants will be in the study for 2 years from the date assigned to either the special services or regular services group.
The study participants will be limited to individuals with mental illness who receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). 3,000 participants from 22 locations across the country will be invited to participate in the study. Neighboring will be enrolling 150 beneficiaries from Lake and Geauga counties beginning in the fall 2006.
